One of my favourite projects to date was designing the Vaisakhi Parade bus wrap. I was asked to create a vibrant 60-foot bus wrap to represent TransLink at the Surrey Khalsa Day Vaisakhi Parade held in April. This Sikh cultural celebration is one of the Lower Mainland’s largest festival events, drawing an estimated 350,000 to 400,000 attendees each year.
I was inspired by the festival’s traditional colour palette, with rich yellows and oranges reflecting the joy and energy of the celebration, as well as the vibrancy of spring and the bountiful harvest season. These vibrant hues evoke warmth and passion, resonating with the lively spirit of the festival. The addition of fuchsia pink brought another layer of vibrancy, further energizing the design.
I also learned that flowers are a big deal, helping to create a joyful mood while welcoming spring and the festive season. Large floral elements animate the wrap, capturing the vivacious, full-of-life energy of the festivities.
From the initial concept phase to the final design, it was a rewarding experience to create artwork that was not only visually striking but also meaningful to the communities we serve.
